The following are six are the trends we see as emerging even stronger in the Australian market.
1. Return to feel good furnishings.
Its no secret that we love vintage and retro pieces at Kaiko Design. This trend we see penetrating further into the market with the emergence of floral, fringe and the rust and pastel colour palettes in home furnishings and accessories as well as the hard finishes. Its no secret that we love terracotta hues here at Kaiko Design - click the image below to view more of our Hill House project which features many of these sexy 70’s materials.
2. Square tiles
Square tiles popping up on the market, perfect for kitchens and bathrooms. Colour combinations include greens and blues, reds, yellows, whites and greys. The uniformity in these tiles make them extremely versatile and economical too.
3. Slim shaker cabinetry
A trend that is starting to take over the country is slim cabinetry. We are seeing a slight comeback in shaker style kitchen and bathroom cabinets, but with more sophisticated finishes. The trend within this area of the market is to maintain or reduce clutter. As space in a home is at a premium we have seen innovative designers implementing more storage into their shaker style designs.
4. Wall murals and paper
Wall murals and paper are becoming a trend in the Australian market, especially in homes that have exposed brick or stone walls. The trend is to keep wall spaces free of clutter and to make the most space possible. Wall murals are a good way for designers to get creative with their designs and still maintain an artistic look. You can read more about our love and best picks for wall murals here.
5. Brick - shift to natural materials
Brick is a classic and natural material that is growing in popularity in the Australian market. Brick provides a clean, natural finish for both walls and flooring. In kitchens a brick feature wall can add an industrial feel to the décor. Brick works well with other masculine materials such as steel, stone and timber. Bricks are also perfect for fireplaces because they can handle high temperatures much better than other materials such as stone.
6. Eco friendly subscriptions
The green movement is exploding and we see smart designers taking advantage of this emerging market. The subscription model is perfect for those who are looking to cut down on their carbon footprint offering great value for money making it an ideal purchase for homeowners.
