Say Goodbye to Renovation Stress: Proven Strategies by Kaiko Design
Renovating is always a stressful event, but luckily there are many ways to make this event a little more enjoyable. Here are some tips and tricks to make your renovation go more smoothly.
Find a good contractor for your project
Even with research it is hard to know what companies are good, and which ones you should avoid. Have a look at the "six questions to ask your builder" article here as a place to start.
Stage your renovation
Do you need to do it all at once? By taking on the project in stages you can make sure your house is back to normal at each point of the way. It cuts out the cost of accommodation, and also can be cheaper than doing it all at once. If you still have a working bathroom in the home, you can probably live through the renovation. It might mean lots of take away meals and outdoor BBQ's.
Plan out everything
This should be done before you begin the renovation and before you even start looking for contractors. Planning and documentation is the best tool you have as a client to keep a handle on the budget. Comprehensive and accurate detailed drawings give builders and contractors all the information they need to give you a fixed price for their work. At Kaiko Design we love documentation, so get comfortable and familiar with reading drawings. Your builder and wallet will love it!
Set realistic expectations
This is an important step to avoid disappointment. You have probably been dreaming about your renovation for a long time, but it is important to set some reasonable goals for the project. If you really wanted a beautiful polished concrete floor you should have allowed more time and money to do that. It is always better to shoot for an end goal that is achievable, than one you will be disappointed in. My advice is to spend on things that cant be added in later.
